Summer Run Club

We are excited to bring back our seasonal Running Club at PDXstrenth. Our run club is offered free to the community, and is for all levels. We will meet at PDXstrength on Sundays at 9:30 am. The first run will be June 2nd.

At PDXstrenth Run Club sessions, you’ll find encouragement, guidance, and a local crew of runners that’s main purpose is to socialize, get a little sweaty, and enjoy 2-4 miles at a comfortable pace. We’re not out to race, we just really like running with great people. All you’ll need to get going is a good pair shoes, a smile, and a signed waiver. There is no cost to join, just sign up on mind body so our coaches and volunteers know who is coming! This is for PDXstrength members and nonmembers.  This club is for those who love running or those who want to start running. We meet once a week and have different levels of running. This club is for all levels, and no matter what your pace… you are destined to have some fun times! Sign up here: Run Club

Capoeira Fitness Basics

New Workshop: Capoeira Fitness Basics

Sunday May 19th 12:30 pm

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that mixes acrobatics, music and dance. In this 60 minute class, you’ll get a quick overview of the history of capoeira, learn some of the basic movements, and get a great workout at the same time! This class will also introduce students to the capoeira “roda” where we’ll have a chance to apply the movements in a traditional capoeira game. Cost is only  $7

No experience necessary! It’s perfect for beginners.  Class is taught by our radical member, Erin Gray. All proceeds will be donated to Erin’s charity of choice.

Community Fundraiser Workout for All Levels

We will be hosting an hour long workout for all levels ( members and non members) on Sunday April 7th at 10:30 am! There will be prizes and refreshments so don’t miss out on this opportunity to get a little sweaty and raise some money for Friends for the Children. I’ve always been a huge fan of mentoring programs. I truly benefited as a youth from my local mentoring program and have had wonderful experiences volunteering as a mentor. We will be taking donations at the event and you can sign up for free using this link:

Below is some information on Friends for the Children.

Here is their mission statement:

Generational poverty can be broken. We’ve been doing it for over 20 years.

Children born into poverty are at risk for dropping out of school, substance abuse, incarceration and teen parenting. We provide a salaried, professional mentor, called a Friend, for their entire childhood, from kindergarten through graduation. 12.5 years. No matter what.

83% of our youth graduate high school.

93% have avoided the juvenile justice system.

98% have avoided early parenting.

New Workshop Series: Get Strong

Welcome to our 6 week, get strong program. Not only is this series a great way to skyrocket your strength and break through  plateaus, it’s just plain fun to GET STRONG! Want to reduce body fat, increase lean muscle mass and burn calories more efficiently? Strength training to the rescue! Strength training is a key component of overall health and fitness for everyone. We will meet once a week, where we will focus on the following three lifts:  the deadlift, bench press (or strict press)  and  back squat (or front squat). Class is limited to 6 athletes.  Each athlete will get a customized program based on what their current 1rep max is in each lift,  all the percentages and calculations are done for each athlete. We keep a record of your numbers and your personal performance will be tracked every class.  Strength training also helps you:

Develop strong bones. By stressing your bones, strength training increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

Be a better athlete. The stronger you are, the faster you can run, the higher you can jump, the more weight you can lift, and your chances of injury decrease,  which all lead to better performance in your sport.

Control your weight. As you gain muscle, your body begins to burn calories more efficiently.

Increase your confidence.  Strength is freedom to do things independently.

Boost your stamina. As you get stronger, you won’t fatigue as easily. Building muscle also contributes to better balance, which can help you maintain independence as you age.

Manage chronic conditions. Strength training can reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic conditions, including back pain, arthritis, obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

Sharpen your focus. Some research suggests that regular strength training helps improve attention for older adults.

Previous  experience with barbell movements ( bench press, shoulder press,  front/back squat and deadlift)  is helpful but not necessary.

The next series starts April 14, 2019!

Sundays 10:30 am to noon
